the hard work is what it takes to get tot he point where you are as skilled as the image above. the hard work is the constant practice and study of a subject to be able to generate so many variations. i can bet their are shelves full of notebooks full of practice, sketches, and years of experience. the secret to being good is hard work, it trumps natural talent every single time, natural talent can only take you so far but hard work can take the worst farther then the best. so believe me or not if you start today and put in 3 hours of practice and hard work everyday at some thing you want to do a the end of the year if you are not close to being called good at it you will have a hell of a track history to show people.
